Born in Riverside, CA, Whitney attended John W. North H.S prior to San Diego State University where she earned a degree in Journalism. A shotputter in high school, she learned how to throw the discus in college. Whitney was a community college transfer and redshirted her first year at SDSU to learn the event. In such a short time with the discus, she became a two-time Division I All-American, the 2012 Division I NCAA Champion, and the first NCAA Champion for SDSU in 25 years.
